Crafty Happy Hour

An all new Crafty Happy Hour is being planned as a time set apart to relax after a day's work, make new friends, and enjoy laughter between others as we do three craft projects during our time together. Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own. The projects won't be anything too difficult, but anytime we get to use paint, paper, and fabric to embellish and recycle something, it's always a good thing. Each month will have new projects and I'll try to keep them varied so to appeal to many interests.

Creative Coloring

Just in case you've been in a cave for the past six months, you might have missed the new craze sweeping the nation -- it's Adult Coloring! As someone who has ALWAYS enjoyed coloring, this comes to no surprise to me. And now it's a legitimate funtime activity! If you'd like to learn more about various techniques, try out new tools, and ooh and aah over different color books and what other people are coloring, come to this one-night special event. We'll learn some tips, color some graphics, and enjoy learning from each other about what makes us tick in the coloring world.

English Paper Piecing

English Paper Piecing is a quilting term that typically involves the use of cardstock templates that are used to precisely wrap fabric around. These units are then sewn together to form something else. For this class, we'll be using the hexagon shape to make a flower which we'll applique to fabric which can then be sewn together to make a mug rug or a sachet or even just a single quilt block. It's addicting (says the person who's done probably a thousand units over the years). I have a little bag that goes with me to all of my kid's ball games, wrestling meets, as I watch movies, and during drive time for kids in training. For those that enjoy some handwork, this is a great project to work on!

Hand Quilting for Beginners

Hand quilting is something that most people either love OR love to hate. I actually really enjoy hand quilting, though it's hard to find the time to keep up with it these days. However, sometimes we just need a hand project to work on and there's great satisfaction when looking at a quilt or wall hanging or table topper that's been hand quilted. This workshop will teach you the basic skills needed, the tools to get started, and we'll actually work on a small project that you can take home to finish. You may find that once you get started it may be hard to put down! Leave a project by your couch and do a little bit every night as you relax and before long you'll have something to be proud of.

Zentangle Classes

Zentangle is an art form that resembles the doodling many of us used to do in our notebooks while sitting around in a classroom. It has exploded in the past year and is quickly becoming a beautiful art form that extends way past our doodling of years ago. It's Doodling on steroids, sorta. It's fun, relaxing, and once you start, you'll find you are soon doodling/tangling page after page!

This class is for the person new to Zentangle and is open to all age groups. Kids also love doing this! We will learn about it's history and philosophy, how to get started, and we'll end up with a project that you'll really enjoy doing! Note: I am not a CZT, or Certified Zentangle Teacher, but having studied the art form for 6 years, I'll be serving as a Facilitator of Zentangle Inspired Art. No materials needed, all will be supplied.

Journal Scrapbook Workshop

Have you ever wanted to learn how to put a journal/scrapbook together -- from scratch? Join us as we'll be starting with a blank booklet, and beautifying it up to be used as a journal, scrapbook, memory book, drawing journal, whatever you'd like it to be -- you can learn how to make it happen. No supplies needed, all will be provided. If you don't get it completed during the classtime, you are welcome to come in during other open shop times and continue to work on it.

Kids Sewing Workshop (3 weeks)

Sewing is one of my most beloved passions, and I truly enjoy sharing it with others, and I know that when kids can get started early knowing how to sew, they often become the movers and shakers of the design world. This class will be a 3-week workshop and the kids will be learning the basics of a sewing machine, tools of the trade, sewing terms, and we'll be sewing a fun project they should be able to complete by the last class. Teach a kid to sew and their world will open up! There will be 4-5 sewing machines available if anyone is not able to bring a machine to class. Otherwise, all other materials will be provided.

Cost: $60

Kids Craft Time

Session #1 on June 16th will be a time for kids to make a Junque Journal. It's the process of taking a blank notebook and using paints, stamps, scrapbook paper, stencils, fabrics, ribbons, etc, to turn the pages into a scrapbook of sorts where one can post pictures, sayings, poems, ticket stubs, anything of value, etc. They are a great deal of fun to make, and the kids will have even more fun filling up the pages once they make their book all bright and colorful.

Session #2 on July 6th will be spent repurposing an old CD into a beautiful faux Stained Glass window hanging. The kids will be using a design template (if they want), several types of paints, a drill for making a hole in the CD, and their imagination. Depending on how much time these take, the kids may be able to do several of them.

Cost: Session #1 - $35
Cost: Session #2 - $20

Lamp Decoupage Workshop (3 weeks)

Easily one of the most admired items in the shop are the decoupaged lamps. This class will teach you how to do your own! The process starts off with finding a suitable lamp and lampshade. You can bring a set from home or if you can come to the shop before classtime, I'll have a selection that can be purchased inexpensively. Additionally, you'll need to bring at least 1-1/2 yards (total) of various fabrics that can be cut into pieces to do the base of the lamp (the amount of fabric will vary depending on which size lamp you're doing), and you'll need an additional 1 to 1-1/2 yards for the lampshade. I will have fabrics you can purchase if you don't have anything, but you will need to have an idea of what colors you're thinking of.

These lamps are a lot of fun to do, though a little bit messy, so dress accordingly. Remember, if you need a lamp, lampshade, and fabric, they would need to be picked out before classtime, so if you could come in an hour early or on another day, I can help you with those choices. All other materials are provided with the class.

Make It Take It Crafts for Families

This time is a one-hour session meant for a mom/dad and their child, or a grandparent and grandchild, who would like to spend an hour together working on a fun craft. Each class will have a different project, and if it's around a holiday, the project may be holiday related. Otherwise it'll be something fun, fairly simple, suitable for most age groups, and ultimately a time to enjoy making something together without having to pull all the supplies together or clean up the mess. It'll all be ready for you!

Quilting for Beginners - Rag Quilt (3 weeks)

Quilting is definitely one of my passions, and if I could sew quilts all day, I would! This particular project will be a good one for those that are new to sewing as well as new to quilting. We'll learn machine basics, tools of the trade, and we'll start working during the first class on cutting out squares for our rag quilt project. The goal is to complete a lap sized rag quilt during the three weeks, but if anyone would like to come in and use a machine during other open hours at the shop, you certainly can do that.

The supplies you'll need to bring are fabrics to use in your quilt, or I will have some kits pulled together you can purchase. Once you register, I'll send you an email with the fabric requirements. The rag quilt that drapes over the chair my husband uses when he visits me in the shop is the most liked quilt in the shop (at least it gets the most comments). It's a fairly easy and straightforward project, so it will be a good one to learn to sew on as it's basically straight lines. And once it's all sewn together, the only step left is some scissor work and voila! You're done!

Sewing for Beginners

Knowing how to sew is such a wonderful skill to have. From making new things to repairing old, from quilts to bags to pajamas -- there is never a shortage of ideas. This class will be a condensed 2-week class where we'll learn the basics of a sewing machine, the 'must have' tools of the trade, and we'll sew together a pillowcase. With only two weeks, we can't cover it all, but we'll learn enough to get you started.

Show & Tell - let's finish those UFO's

This is probably the time I'm looking forward to the most, so I hope some others will join me! It's going to be a time for us to share our UFO's, or UnFinished Objects, whether it's a craft project or quilt project or scrapbook project. Pick one, any one! Goodness knows I have enough of them stashed in a bookcase to keep me busy for many months. My goal is to have a time we can talk about what we're going to work on for the week, and then come back to share what we got done and then present the next project to tackle. It's summer, I know we're all busy, but even if only a little bit gets done each week, we can encourage each other to keep going because at some point, something WILL get completed. :)

Strip Quilt - Mile a Minute

This is a fun project where we start with 2-1/2" strips, or a Jelly Roll, and we sew them together end to end, row by row, to create a lap-sized quilt. It's called a "Mile a Minute" quilt because some women have been known to sew in a race to complete it. Ha! We don't have to race, but we can have fun sewing together for the day. Coffee, water, snacks and lunch will be provided.

You'll need to bring your sewing machine and a few tools of the trade. I'll have an ironing station and a cutting station available for your use.

T-Shirt Quilt - Demonstration Class

T-shirt quilts are quite popular these days, and I have quite a few questions come my way about these quilts so a class is going to be offered to help those who'd like to make one. A demonstration will be given on how to cut the shirts, what type of interfacing to use, options to choose from when laying out your pattern, sewing the blocks together and then finishing it. Please bring a t-shirt to practice with and to put the demo into practice.

Cost: $15

Wood Candle Workshop

This is a super fun project to work on. You'll be given a set of blocks (4x4 wood cut into various heights). By using scrapbook paper, ribbons, stickers, stamps, etc, we'll be creating a colorful trio of blocks that will certainly be a new conversational piece for your home. The tops will have a hole cut where a tealight candle will fit. Fun fun!
